Incidence
The incidence of mouth cancer in Wales is rising with around 300 new cases annually. Men are twice as likely to develop mouth cancer however the incidence in both sexes is rising. The highest incidence of mouth cancer is seen amongst men aged 55- 74 (around 33 cases per 100,000 population).
There has been an increase in cases in older women over the past decade, with an 82% increase in cases amongst women aged 65-74. The greatest increase for men is the 35-44 age group, which showed a 128% rise between 2001-2003 and 2011 – 2013 (around 4 cases per 100,000 population).
