Case study
A female patient in her late 60’s attended her dentist complaining of a painless lump under her lower denture present for 6 weeks. No other signs or symptoms were present. She reported that she had previously visited her local pharmacist who suggested Bonjella and had advised her to see her GP. She also visited her GP who had prescribed her antibiotics for this lesion a month previously. The dentist examined the area and immediately referred the patient using a 2 week urgent patient pathway for suspected cancers. The biopsy results showed that the lesion was a squamous cell carcinoma. This was treated surgically.
