Contraindications to HRT

HRT should not be prescribed to women in the following categories. 
Those with:

  • Pregnancy 
  • Untreated hypertension 
  • Active liver disease with abnormal liver function tests 
  • Active or recent arterial thromboembolic disease 
  • Previous or current venous thromboembolism unless the women is on anticoagulation treatment 
  • Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding or untreated endometrial hyperplasia 
  • Known or suspected oestrogen-sensitive cancer 
  • Current, past or suspected breast cancer 
  • Porphyria cutanea tarda 
  • Dubin-Johnson and Rotor syndromes
