Contraindications to HRT
HRT should not be prescribed to women in the following categories.
Those with:
- Pregnancy
- Untreated hypertension
- Active liver disease with abnormal liver function tests
- Active or recent arterial thromboembolic disease
- Previous or current venous thromboembolism unless the women is on anticoagulation treatment
- Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding or untreated endometrial hyperplasia
- Known or suspected oestrogen-sensitive cancer
- Current, past or suspected breast cancer
- Porphyria cutanea tarda
- Dubin-Johnson and Rotor syndromes
